John had bought a large parcel of property and abandoned it twice. The first time was in Tn. He abandoned it and was sqatted on and "purchased" 7 years after his leaving the area.
The second time was in Il. In 1870 the land flooded and the river dumped sands on it making it useless for farming. In disgust he left Il and abandoned the property tp relocate to Missouri. The land was flooded again and the sand washed away. His daughter sent word that the land was once again ok to farm but John was so disgusted he refused to return. It was a good thing he didnt relocate the family again as it flooded once more and the river took the land for good. It was located in the area known as "Dog Tooth Bend" near Cairo, Il.
