John Anyan sent his family and wife to Missouri to escape a pox epidemic. He was detained in Tn as the borders were locked down in order to contain the disease. When he finally was allowed to leave and go to Missouri to be reunited with is family, he got off at the wrong steamship stop. At the next stop after he got off, the steamer caught fire and burned with heavy casualties. The family thought him dead.
