John Alexander Anyan and Sarah Clara "Sallie" Stewart Anyan ;ived in Puxico, Stoddard County, Missouri. John Was Dr. Lowed grand nephew and apprentice later becoming known as "Dr.John" in the Mingo Swamps. Most likely he was a root dr of sorts treating maladies with remedies that were on hand. He also snaked logs out of Mino swamp for the Moss Tie Company that manufactured railroad ties . Sallie was the town washerwoman and it was said that if you wanted the whitest whites, to have Sallie do your wash.
John always walked around with his shoes untied, but it wasn't an indication of laziness as was sometimes though, rahter he suffered from dropsy and partially paralyzed.He also had malaria contracted from working in the swamp. He still worked every day doing the back breaking and dangerous labor at the tie company.
John died alone in the swamps while working. His cause of death is listed as hemoplagia with complications due to malaria.
