Captured at Roanoke Island on February 8, 1862 and paroled at Elizabeth City, NC on 21 February 1862. Exchanged in August 1862. Promoted to Sergeant on March 1, 1863. Present or accounted for until wounded in the right leg and captured at Fort Harrison, VA. September 30, 1864. Hospitalized at Fort Monroe, VA until transferred to Camp Hamilton, VA, January 9, 1865. . Transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland January 14, 1865. Paroled at Point Lookout and transferred to Boulware's Wharf, James River, VA where he was received March 19, 1865 for exchange.
